Police are looking for a man who posed as an Uber driver and threatened to hurt a passenger picked up on the Lower East Side.

The incident happened at around 1:30 p.m. on May 15. The victim, 24, had ordered an Uber car. She got in a black sedan that arrived at Mangin Street and FDR Drive a few minutes later. She knew something was wrong when the driver headed uptown, rather than taking her home to Brooklyn, as she had requested.

The man demanded money, and threatened to sexually assault and shoot her. The victim gave him an iPhone, wallet with $20 inside, a debit card and Metrocard, a jacket and a pair of gold earrings. According to cops, the woman escaped the car after the driver stopped for a red light on East 125th Street. She wasn’t injured.

Police describe the man as bearded, in his 30s with short hair and dark skin. If you know anything about this crime, call Crime Stoppers at 800-577-TIPS (8477).
