Police are still looking for a suspect in the attack of a Pakistani woman on East Broadway earlier this month. As previously reported, the July 11 incident left the 19-year-old victim with a broken jaw. Cops are investigating the case as a possible hate crime.

It happened near 109 East Broadway (Pike Street) at around 10:40 p.m. Amina Razvi required surgery at Beth Israel Hospital. The woman, born in this country, was wearing a traditional Muslim head scarf. She and her brother had just gotten off a bus and were speaking in urdu when a man approached them. They had come from Maryland to visit a family member in Brooklyn.

He accused them of talking about him in a foreign language and launched into an anti-Muslim diatribe. Police say the man spit in the woman’s face and then began punching her.

The suspect is about 5-foot-10 and was wearing dark clothing and a dark baseball hat. He fled down Eldridge Street after the attack. If you know anything about this crime, call Crime Stoppers at (800) 577-TIPS.
