Doka Square, an Asian small plates restaurant, looks almost ready to open at 53 Delancey St./141 Eldridge St. The new spot  has shed its plywood as workers continue to put the finishing touches on the corner space.
The operators say Doka Square is inspired by the izakayas of Japan and meant to serve as a neighborhood gathering place for a quick bite or full meal. Earlier this year, owner Kin Ma agreed to back away from a full bar and settle for wine and beer instead, after Community Board 3 expressed skepticism about his experience.
A sample menu includes items such as whitefish sashimi, chili garlic lamb ribs, takoyaki (typically fried octopus balls), chile garlic lamb ribs and wagyu beef shabu shabu. The chef is Richard Horiike, who’s worked at Nobu 57 among other restaurants.
