Followup: Restaurant, Upscale Grocery Sought For 259 East Broadway

259 East Broadway.

Here’s a quick update from 259 East Broadway, where two ground floor commercial spaces are being prepared for tenants. When we reported on this property the other day, the broker handling the building hadn’t yet returned our calls, but we did hear from him last week.

Relly Arbib of Quality Living confirmed what a local business owner had told us about the asking price for a space previously occupied by Big Apple Deli, a bodega, and a second spot that was once home to a takeout Chinese restaurant. The big space, 1200 sq. ft., on the corner of East Broadway and Montgomery streets, is priced at $15,000 month. A smaller space on Montgomery Street is $8,000/month. The entire building is just undergone a major face lift.

Arbib said the owner of the building, R.A. Cohen & Associates, sees renting the storefronts to the types of businesses that would appeal to newcomers who have moved into the neighborhood in recent years (yes, gentrifiers). He’s looking for a restaurant for the big space and a grocery for the Montgomery Street store. Arbib emphasized that the owner is not interested in leasing to a bodega-style business but to a natural foods/organic type grocery. For more info, you can contact Quality Living through this link.
