Rubble is All That’s Left of the Broome Street Fire House

Must Read

site demo 3

Here’s the rubble that remains after this week’s demolition of the old Broome Street fire house. Crews took down the 1937 building to make room for Essex Crossing, the large residential and commercial project coming to the former Seward Park urban renewal site. Next up: demolition of two Grand Street tenements. The development team says they hope to begin work on a new 15 story building here, including new rental apartments, a large grocery store and other commercial businesses, by late June or early July. The parcel will also include a public park and a site for a potential public school. The building was the former home of Engine Company 17 and Hook & Ladder Company 18 until 1973. It was used in recent years by a movie props business.
