An Instagram post featuring lyrics from a Johnny Cash song caused some alarm at NEST+m, the public school at 111 Columbia St. According to the Daily News, a 15-year-old student created an entry on the social media platform that included some of the lyrics from the 2002 song, “The Man Comes Around,” along with the school crest and the date 4/16/15. The News reported:
School officials sent emails only to parents of high schoolers assuring them students were in no danger — but parents of kids in lower grades at the K-12 school were not immediately told, sparking confusion… A lengthy email chain circulated among parents Wednesday night and several said they contacted police out of concern. Education Department officials said they are working with the school to address the situation. “The Education Department is working with school leadership to ensure the safety of our school community,” said Education Department spokesman Jason Fink. The email from Principal Olga Livanis went out schoolwide Wednesday. “We spoke with the parents of the student who wrote the message and were reassured that the student’s message was not meant to be a threat to anyone,” the missive said.
Police were brought in to investigate the message and also determined that there was no reason for concern.
Parents today! What a bunch of whiny yutzes.
