Another small business is unfortunately calling it quits on the Lower East Side as we start the new year. Yoga High is giving up its space at 98 Forsyth St. Owner Mel Russo explains on the studio’s website:
…like many small businesses in New York, it has gotten to the point where the cost of real estate is just beyond the capacity of what we can handle. We’ve crunched the numbers every way and then some, and it just doesn’t add up for the business to stay open.
Russo added that her landlord had been “overly generous,” helping to sustain the business after high rent forced the yoga studio from Clinton Street. Some renovations are going to be taking place in the building; Russo said there’s a possibility Yoga High could eventually return. The business was started seven years ago by Russo and Liza Buehler Walker. They were featured in our My LES series a couple of years ago. The last class will be Jan. 29.
