Police are asking for help in trying to find a man wanted for multiple attacks on women throughout the Lower East Side. The most recent incident occurred in the 5th Precinct, which covers Chinatown (they are not being any more specific about the location). According to an NYPD advisory:
… a 31-year-old female victim was opening the door of her apartment building when the suspect approached her from behind and grabbed her waist. The suspect then pulled the victim’s pants down and when the victim yelled, the suspect pushed her away and fled the scene.
Investigators believe the same man is responsible for at least three other attacks downtown. They previously released video of one incident that took place inside a building on East 6th Street on Dec. 28. In that case, the suspect followed a 22-year-old woman into her building, assaulting the victim in the stairwell. On Dec 9 at about 6:30 a.m., cops say he followed a 25-year-old woman into another building in the 9th Precinct. After the suspect grabbed her, she screamed and he fled. On Dec. 16 at about 12:45 a.m., the suspect apparently struck again – in similar fashion – at a building on FDR Drive. Cops have also linked the suspect to a Dec. 17 attack in Harlem.
The suspect is described as a black male, approximately 5’4″ to 5’11”, 20-25-years-old, 150-180 lbs. He wears a black Yankees baseball hat.
Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477).
