A 31-year old man was shot and killed last night as he was delivering presents to his children at the Smith Houses on Catherine Street. A gunman opened fire on Rashaun Nicholson. He died immediately from a single gun shot to the head.
The shooting happened outside 78 Catherine St., in front of the Catherine Street Family Respite Shelter, at around 7 p.m. The victim’s brother, James Nicholson, told Channel 4 said he was visiting his four kids after returning from South Carolina, where his dad lives. Police said Nicholson had a Lower East Side address about a block away from the shooting scene. The Post reported that Nicholson had arrests for robbery, weaponds possession and escape.
Police are searching for the shooter. So far they don’t have a motive.
