We’re just a day away from Halloween 2014. Here’s another family-friendly event from the tenant association at the Hernandez Houses on Allen Street. For the first time this year, they’ll be hosting a Halloween Costume Party & Food Drive. It benefits the Bowery Mission.
“Our mission was to give the children of this community a safe and fun place to celebrate,” said Felicia Gordon, tenant association president, “while imparting the value of giving back by helping others, especially those in our community who are in great distress.”
Beginning at 5 p.m., there will be food, candy, gift bags, games for the kids and music from DJ Tony (a Hernandez Houses resident). The event is open to the public and candy will be given out to trick-or-treaters until 8 p.m., or while supplies last. There will also be a collection box for canned and non-perishable food for the Bowery Mission.
The tenant association is partnering with the LES Dwellers for the event. City Council member Margaret Chin provided funding. Local businesses, Verlaine, Mission Cantina, El Rey, the Meatball Shop, Caffe Vita, and Edith Machinist donated candy, gift bags, decorations and labor. Stop 1 Gourmet Deli and Epstein’s provided food and beverages.
The event will be held in the resident association room at 189 Allen St. (Stanton).
