Here’s a bit more information about the large residential and commercial project Extell Development is building on the former site of the Cherry Street Pathmark store. As previously reported, the prolific developer is planning a 68 story tower in the Two Bridges neighborhood. Demolition of the single level store got underway this week.
Last night, Community Board 3 District Manager Susan Stetzer said Extell reps have indicated there will also be a second building on the site. It will contain around 200 units of affordable housing. She told community board members that Extell is now looking at coming to brief the land use committee of CB3 in June regarding the plans. Previous scheduled appearances have been canceled.
Also, more details are available in documents being filed with the Department of Buildings. According to the floor-by-floor plan, quite a lot of space below ground and extending to the fifth floor will include amenities such as retail stores, a basketball court, a bowling alley, “golf simulator room,” sauna and steam rooms, swimming pool, a theater, “dog spa” and various fitness rooms, including a rock climbing room. There is no specific mention of a grocery store to replace the Pathmark. Apartments begin on the 6th floor. There are 13 or 14 units per floor, except on the 68th floor, where 7 larger apartments are planned.
