If you’ve walked past Clayton Patterson’s gallery on Essex Street in the past week, you’ve probably noticed a new art work on the front door.
This past weekend, the longtime Lower East Side documentarian hosted a “happening” — the latest unveiling from the “13 Portals,” the interactive project from the Free Art Society. Every week this summer, they’re revealing a new portal (the work at 161 Essex Street is portal number 7). Each unveiling offers people the chance to acquire a key to a final event in October where the puzzle — now being slowly revealed — will be solved. EV Grieve has been following the project. You can read ore here. Saturday’s scene outside Clayton’s gallery included an elaborate performance and attracted an eclectic crowd.
