LES Bites: Pig & Khao, Smoked Fish at Essex Market, Francesca

It’s been a hectic week — not much time to focus on the restaurant scene.  So let’s catch up:

  • Pig & Khao, the Southeast Asian entry from Top Chef alum Leah Cohen and the Fatty Crab team opens next Tuesday in the old Falai space on Clinton Street. Grub Street has an early look.
  • Annika Sundvik, formerly of the defunct White Slab Palace, is bringing smoked fish to the Essex Street Market. She’ll be taking over a stall next to Heritage Meats.
  • There’s continuing speculation about what’s happening at Francesca (formerly Frankies Sputino) on Clinton Street. The place has been emptied out. Owners Frank Falcinelli and Frank Castronovo did not mention the LES restaurant in a recent interview in Esquire.
  • The Tenement Museum is beginning a new “Culinary Conversations” series; first up on October 4 — Nikki Russ Federman of Russ & Daughters and Wilson Tang of the Nom Wah Tea Parlor.
