Good news as we prepare for more high temperatures over the weekend — New York City’s outdoor pools open today! The Olympic size Hamilton Fish Pool at 128 Pitt St. (just below Houston) will be open from 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., with a break for pool cleaning between 3:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m.
The popular Adult Lap Swim will begin on Thursday, July 5th and is offered both mornings and evenings from 7:00 – 8:30. This year swimmers can register online to participate in the annual outdoor lap swim program. If you swim 30 miles or more over the summer you’ll receive a free 30th anniversary t-shirt, and prizes will be awarded to the top three male and female distance swimmers at each pool program.
Built in 1936, the historic outdoor pool was once used as a training ground for the U.S. Olympic team before they competed in Helsinki in 1952. Find out more about the history here. You can swim for free through Labor Day.
Do you need a park permit or something to use the pool?
Online registration for Morning and Eve lap swims. Think the rest is just walk in, but you have to wear specific clothes and have a lock.
