We received the following news advisory from the Beyond Ground Zero Network:
The Beyond Ground Zero Network (BGZ) invites all workers and residents of the Lower East Side and Chinatown still suffering health problems from the toxic fallout of 9/11 to a community informational forum. At this forum, community members will commemorate those lost after 9/11 and question the government’s response to the worsening health problems of survivors 10 years after the disaster. The BGZ coalition has also invited hospital administrators and doctors from Bellevue and Gouveneur hospitals to present updates about how new federal funding from the 9/11 Zadroga Act will be used in their 9-11 medical clinics known as the World Trade Center Environmental Health Program. Soon after 9/11, the BGZ coalition mobilized Lower Manhattan workers and residents to call for long-term medical treatment & study, as well as reparations for permanent damage to health. The WTC Program at Bellevue and Gouverneur and the 9/11 Zadroga Act were direct responses to workers’ demands. Both recognized that besides Ground Zero first responders, there were thousands of other workers and residents made ill by the toxic fallout.
The forum takes place tomorrow from 2-5 p.m., at the Seward Park Community Center, 56 Essex Street.
