This is the east side of the Bowery, which is currently unprotected from large scale development. Activists and historians met last night at Dixon Place in celebration of the Bowery’s cultural history, and to raise awareness about it’s nomination in the National Register of Historic Places, in hopes of preserving it.
Coming up today, a community celebration at the Educational Alliance where they will light the first candle on their menorah to kick off this year’s Festival of Lights (Hanukkah begins tonight). All ages are invited. And if you’re looking for some wacky fun tonight, make sure to stop by the 12th Annual Mr. Lower East Side Pageant at the Bowery Poetry Club. Find more events on our community calendar here.
Keep your umbrella with you as heavy rain and wind will continue throughout the day; look for a high of 62. Stay dry out there!
