This weekend is packed with great performances on the Lower East Side. Here are some top picks for events happening in the neighborhood:
- Don’t forget to get your act together and audition for the Lower East Side Talent Showcase. They are seeking singers, actors, dancers, bands, comics, poets, and novelty acts. Auditions will be held this Friday from 6-9pm and Sunday from 3-6pm at Abrons Arts Center – 466 Grand Street.
- It’s your last weekend to catch Edwin Lee Gibson’s “Five ‘Til (solo)” piece at Dixon Place. Founder Ellie Covan writes that Gibson has “written a truly original piece – his performance is awesome and the soulful music complements this moving story perfectly. Yes, the show is about the death penalty, but don’t let that discourage you – the story is riveting and inspired by an actual event.” Tickets: $15 advance purchase; $20 / $18 (stu/sen) at the door // 7:30p // 161A Chrystie Street.
- Jonah Bokaer’s U.S. premier of “Anchises” is running at Abrons through Sunday. There is a glowing review from the NYTimes here.
- Improv Comedy group Chester has been hosting evenings of comedy at ABC No Rio for the last year. Now they’re organizing a charming event to benefit the ABC No Rio Building Fund at neighboring venu, the Living Theatre. $20 // 9pm // 21 Clinton Street.
