New Federal Theater Brings Rollicking ‘Knock Me a Kiss’ to Abrons

The New Federal Theater has been generating some buzz with their production of ‘Knock Me a Kiss’ at Abrons Arts Center. The play has a stellar cast and stars Tony winner Andre De Shields as W.E.B. Du Bois.  The story, written and directed by Charles Smith, is based on the ill-advised marriage of W. E. B. Du Bois’s daughter Yolande to one of Harlem’s great poets, Countee Cullen, at the height of the Harlem Renaissance.  Resulting fun (and some poignance) ensues when it becomes clear Countee Cullen is more attracted to his best friend, Harold Jackman, than his new wife.
