Weekend Guide

Must Read

Looks like another action-packed fall weekend on the Lower East Side is in store for us:

  • There’s fun for kids at Dixon Place with the Hey-Ya Brothers performing on Saturday.  The monthly slapstick variety show features NYC’s top clowns and children’s performers combining circus skills, magic, and music. They write: In the tradition of comedy greats like The Marx Brothers, Abbott and Costello, or Dean Martin and Jerry Lewis, classic vaudeville comedy comes to life as the Hey-Ya Brothers present their acts of skill and silliness- where the most simple of tasks turns into outlandish laughs. $15, $10 for kids // 2p // 161A Chrystie Street.
  • William Pope.L‘s “Eating the Wall Street Journal (New Millennium Edition), 2010” will be performed on Saturday, as part of the exhibition “The Last Newspaper” at the New Museum. Ten performers wearing Obama masks and pajamas too big for them will wander the museum, eerily chewing on strips of newspaper. 1-4p // 235 Bowery.
  • If you haven’t had a chance to see the new stained-glass window by Kiki Smith at the Museum at Eldridge yet, Sunday might be nice time to visit. Cellist Erik Friedlander, member of the Masada ensemble will perform John Zorn’s Volac: Book of Angels. $20, $15 students and seniors // 3pm // 12 Eldridge Street.
  • For a special treat catch Nightmare Before Christmas on the big screen at the Sunshine’s Midnight Movie this weekend. Tim Burton’s timeless classic (with original songs and score by Danny Elfman) still feels authentic and offers fresh animated (stop motion) details of horror and delight even if you’ve seen it many times before. $9.99 // Friday and Saturday at midnight // 143 E.  Houston Street.
