As we reported last month, Community Board 3 has decided its time to revisit the policies of its SLA Committee, which evaluates bar/restaurant liquor licenses. That meeting has now been scheduled for Thursday, August 19th, 630pm at University Settlement’s Houston Street Center, 273 Bowery.
According to next month’s agenda, the board:
“…would like to hear from residents and businesses regarding their immediate areas. What are plans/visions for the area? What are concerns/problems? What do you want to retain? All previous resolution areas will be reviewed.”
In the past, some board members, residents and bar owners have complained about seemingly inconsistent rulings. Several years ago, CB3 designated several zones in the neighborhood in which new licenses are seriously restricted. But in a town hall meeting last year, State Liquor Authority Chief Dennis Rosen said his agency doesn’t recognize the so-called “resolution areas” because these kinds of sweeping edicts are potentially unlawful.
You can go to CB3’s web site if you’d like to become familiar with the board’s current SLA policies.
