As part of Black History Month a few local LES artists are participating in the Manhattan theatrical premier of Shoot 2 Win. An American adaptation of a British production, the play is directed by Tracey Moore (known for coaching sessions with musical artists such as Busta Rhymes, Missy Elliot, Eve, Nelly, Ludacris).
The show features an all-female, predominately African American cast and is set in a locker room during the finals of a female basketball tournament. Local artists involved in the production include actors Tamara Daley and Abigail Ramsey and the stage manager, Pope Jackson. “Shoot 2 Win directly takes on women’s issues that need to be exposed to a broader audience,” says producer Donna Maria (also an actor and co-founder of shoot2win.org). “In this way, people will see that we are not so different from each other, regardless of the fact that we were born with different skin colors.” Shoot 2 Win will run tonight through Feb. 14th at the Cherry Lane Theater (tix available at telecharge) and again in Brooklyn at the Kumble Theater March 3rd-7th.
