American Realness – A Festival of Contemporary Performance (APAP), will be visiting the Abrons Arts Center this weekend as part of the Annual Association of Performing Arts Presenters Conference happening city-wide through Jan. 15th. The festival will highlight the work of eight contemporary choreographers, including Miguel Gutierrez and the Powerful People (above) which takes movements and text from James Dean's three films to create a non-narrative patchwork that examines America's fascination with iconic symbols and out-sized expectations. Presenter Ben Pryor of tbsp management, has said of his reasons for launching the festival, "I love under the radar, which has been the best platform for
contemporary work during APAP, but it doesn’t show dance.  It became a
dream of mine to create an 'under the radar for dance', if you will."
