The Bowery Alliance of Neighbors has a meeting at the Department of City Planning today — to present its proposal for rezoning the east side of the Bowery. When the Lower East Side was rezoned last year, the west side of the historic street was included, but curiously, not the east side.
The neighborhood organization, with the support of elected officials, is making its case that the entire street should be protected from over-development. The plan would impose an 85 foot height limit for new buildings.
The Bowery Alliance went before a Community Board 3 committee last week, visual aides in hand, to ask for its support. CB3's zoning chair, David McWater, said he would attend the planning department meeting. You can see the proposal on the Alliance's web site.
