In the news this past week:
–Four residents ranging in age from 62 to 80 were killed in a fire at 80 Madison St. on Tuesday. The fire started in an e-bike store and, authorities said, it was caused by lithium-ion batteries. According to the fire marshal, the store had previously been cited for violations “related to charging lithium-ion batteries.” The owner said he doesn’t believe the batteries were responsible for the fire. –A construction worker was rescued after falling at a construction site at 165 Broome St. and becoming wedged between two buildings. [AM New York]
–An 18-year-old man was shot and killed while standing outside a deli near Rivington and Pitt streets over the weekend. [New York Post]
–Prosecutors are beginning to lay out the cases against two men accused of drugging more than two dozen victims at nightlife venues across Lower Manhattan and then targeting them for robberies. Five of the victims died. [The New York Times]
