Delancey Street Associates, the consortium building Essex Crossing, is announcing this morning that it has signed a 15-year lease with NYU Langone Medical Center to bring a large health care facility to the Lower East Side.
Back in August, NYU went public with news of “a generous multimillion dollar gift from Joan H. Tisch to establish the new Joan H. and Preston Robert Tisch Center” within the Essex Crossing mixed-use development. But at that point, a lease had not been locked down.
Now the deal is done. The facility will be located in a building now under construction on Site 6 of the project in the former Seward Park urban renewal site. The center, at 175 Delancey St. (Attorney Street) will take 55,000 sq. ft. on three floors of the building. According to a press release, the facility will “provide a comprehensive array of services, including urgent care and multi-specialty physician practices.”
In a statement, NYU Langone Senior Vice President Vicki Match Suna said, “We are excited to be a part of this project and are looking forward to bringing a world class ambulatory care center to this rapidly expanding neighborhood.” S. Andrew Katz of the Prusik Group (an Essex Crossing partner), said the developers have known that access to quality medical care is important to the community and are pleased to have teamed up with NYU to establish the center in the first phase of development.
The building, one of four now being built as part of Essex Crossing, will also include 100 rental apartments for low-income seniors, as well as a senior center and a 2500 sq. ft. coffee shop, both run by Grand Street Settlement. There will also be a 24,000 sq. ft. educational facility (the operator has not yet been announced).
Essex Crossing is being built by BFC Partners, L+M Development Partners, and Taconic Investment Partners. The overall development on nine parcels includes 1,000 apartments, office space, a 14-screen Regal Cinemas theater, a Splitsville Luxury Lanes bowling alley, a Planet Fitness gym, a public park and a new Essex Street Market.
The Joan H. and Preston Robert Tisch Center is expected to open in late 2018.
There will also be a 24,000 sq. ft. educational facility (the operator has not yet been announced).
This will surely also be NYU. They’re going to turn the LES into another campus like they did the W. Village.
and all the work that is being done is Non Union…..which is a shame, there are many union workers in the area that can use these jobs.
