In September, we reported that demolition permits had been filed for 201-203 East Broadway, the former headquarters of United Hebrew Community of New York. Now New York Yimby has spotted permits for the new building envisioned on this site.
The plan is to put up a 7-story structure containing 10 modular apartments and ground floor commercial space. The Buildings Department document reads: “proposed merg(ing) of lots 24 and 25… and construction of one pre-fabricated building consisting of a cellar and 7 stories.”
The developer, Daniel Wise, plans 14,872 feet of residential space, nearly 2,000 sq. ft. for a community facility (medical offices) and 3600 sq. ft. of general-purpose commercial space. The designer is Martin Kapell of Think Architecture & Design.
The buildings were purchased for $8.5 million. United Hebrew Community, originally called Adath Isreal, is a Jewish burial society established on East Broadway in 1901.
