The commanding officer of the 7th Precinct, Deputy Inspector Nancy Barry, is moving on. Barry, who’s been the top cop in Manhattan’s second smallest precinct since the spring of 2009, is being transferred to the 24th Precinct, on the Upper West Side.
She is being replaced on the Lower East Side by Captain Peter Venice, who’s currently the second in command at the 70th Precinct in Flatbush.
Barry introduced Venice at yesterday’s National Night Out celebration on Stanton Street. Tomorrow is Barry’s last day in charge at the 7th. Venice is on the job Friday. There’s no community council meeting in August, so official introductions will wait until September.
