Story by Kari Jensen
Fashion season is here again. It’s time to go to runway shows, check out Lower East Side pop-up shops, and be careful not to stumble into street photo shoots.
As August was winding down, Davia Murray, cofounder of Bowery Showroom, was setting up for a Black Business Month Marketplace event, which included @4shots.iv, @brownmillcompany, @cerisezhaneofficial, @facebullyproductions, @ra.gemznyc, and @superstarkya.
Murray was also thinking about New York Fashion Week (NYFW), Sept. 6-11, and considering the upcoming Bowery Showroom schedule.
“New York Fashion Week isn’t just a week. Black Business Month isn’t just a month,” Murray said. “There are these initiatives all throughout the year. People are welcome to come to Bowery Showroom whenever. Come to Soho whenever, to support a Black-owned business whenever. We appreciate it.”

As NYFW shows have shifted away from being presented at a central hub, designers market themselves creatively. Some sell tickets to events. Others present digitally.
Here is the NYFW Livestream schedule.
If you’re unable to go to your favorite designer’s fashion show – say for example, Eckhaus Latta or Sandy Liang – you can shop locally at their stores, online or in-person. (Eckhaus Latta is in Chinatown, while Liang’s flagship is in the Lower East Side).

There’s still time to get tickets to some NYFW events. Here’s a partial list of some goings on:
