Here are some suggestions for upcoming events that are on our radar:
- The First Annual OUT Music Festival debuts on Monday, January 29th at 7:00pm and runs through February 4th at Theater For the New City.Co-Presented by FourOneOne and Arts For Art. They write: “The Future is Pissed! The world is divided against itself. The earth is in jeopardy. These diverse artists are doing their best with too little support. Their voices have been marginalized. As people of conscience and as creative people, we come together to support each other as we live, create, and work for a world with peace, compassion, justice, and the arts.”
- Mark DeGarmo Dance broadcasts its 14th Annual Virtual Salon Performance Series for Social Change on Thursday, February 1st at 7:00pm on a live interactive Zoom Broadcast. The event offers a curated performance of works-in-progress with an opportunity for a facilitated audience response to the theme of “Dance as Social Rescue & Healing.”
- Take a deep dive into all things Lunar New Year at Think!Chinatown’s artist talk with photographer Edward Cheng on February 1st at 6:00pm. Cheng is the artist behind their new black and white film photography exhibit, “Walking with Lions, and Other Chinatown New Year Traditions.”
- Seward Park Library resumes its free “National Film Registry Series” with a screening of Albert Magnoli’s ‘Purple Rain’ on Saturday, February 3 at 2:00pm.
- As part of this year’s “From Chinatown With Love” event, the W.O.W. Project and print/design studio Lucky Risograph host a Lunar New Year Arts Afternoon on Saturday, February 3 at 11:00am, to celebrate the year of the wood dragon. Participants are invited to imagine what an abundant new year might look like for the Chinatown community through red envelope making and more.
- The Parkside Lounge presents a night of live electronicperformances by Kevin Kenkel, Michael Beharie, and Molto Ohm with
special guest Taja Cheek as part of “Deep Listening” on Sunday, February 4th at 7:00pm. The evening promises “experimental instrumentations, psychedelic resonances, and cosmic sonic explorations.”
