Here are some suggestions for upcoming events that are on our radar:
- Catch the group photo exhibition, Uprooted, curated by Maylyn “Zero” Iglesias and Lissy Mineo-Gonzalez at the Loisaida Inc. Center now through Nov. 2nd. The show explores “the disconnect immigrants, migrants and the children of immigrants experience in the multitude of spaces and cultures they occupy.”
- For three nights only, you can witness Antonio Ramos and the Gangbangers: CEREMONIA (photo above), a commissioned dance-theater performance at Abrons Arts Center, on Oct. 19-21, conceived by choreographer Antonio Ramos. “In a mixtape extravaganza of cultural misappropriation and reappropriation, Ramos calls on his ancestors and carries the audience on a journey to the bottom of the ocean and back again. This piece is a ceremony.”
- Nightmare Dollhouse, a theatrical immersive haunted house experience “inspired by the weirdest and scariest roadside oddities,” comes to Teatro SEA at The Clemente for Halloween. The limited engagement opens on Oct. 18th and runs through the 31st.
- Originally commissioned by NYU Skirbal, HEBEL by Slovak-American director Pavel Zuštiak / PALISSIMO, an interdisciplinary performance on fleeting nature of human ambition makes its world premiere at The Ellen Stewart Theater, Oct. 19 – 22.
- Join a cider-fueled discussion at the next Talk & Taste: Farm To City To Table—How The City Eats Fresh. There will be local cider and beer, along with market snacks and a conversation that will range from the history of agriculture and farming in and around New York City with Dan Pucci, the author of our featured book, American Cider: a Modern Guide to a Historic Beverage, on Weds., Oct. 25th at 6:30pm.
