Here are a few suggestions for local happenings that are on our radar:
- Check out folk and pop duo Jonnyswim at one of the Preserve Rockwood Benefit Concert Series on Thursday, August 17 at 7:30pm. The local indie music venue is in danger of closing due to increasingly high overhead costs.
- Poetry in New York presents a new pay-what-you-can event at Book Club Bar on Thursday, August 17 at 8pm. The first set features three 15 minute sets of poetry by: Jack Brown, Tai Allen, and host Galinsky. A second set of “Five Minute Features” with co-host Anna Carlson follows.
- Join in the Lady Bug Release, a free event with crafts and activites for all ages at M’Finda Kalunga Garden on Saturday, August 19th from 1-3pm.
- Celebrate World Photography Day with free admission at ICP on Saturday, August 19th from 5-7pm, while visiting Love Songs: Photography and Intimacy, featuring the work of 16 contemporary photographers.

To close out their summer season, they’re diving into the Chinese & Latin music crossover that filled the dance floors of Shanghai, Hong Kong, and Taiwan with mambo and cha-cha-cha between the 1930s-60s.
- Apply for the Mark DeGarmo Dance Virtual Salon Performance Series for Social Change 2024, Broadcast via Zoom on Thursdays Feb. 1, Mar. 7 & Apr. 4 at 7:00 PM ET with the theme “Dance as Social Rescue & Healing.”
