New York City’s joyful return to in-person events this summer includes the return of Rooftop Films Summer Series to the rooftop venue at New Design High School. The outdoor festival has grown over the years to include numerous venues city-wide, featuring site-specific programs of new independent films from May to August. Tickets are free with an RSVP (seating is first come, first served) and most of the screenings include live music, immersive performances, filmmaker Q&As, and fun after-parties.
The lineup at New Design High School brings four different features to the rooftop in June and July, including a special sneak preview screening of Dean Fleischer-Camp’s Marcel the Shell With Shoes On, on Wednesday, June 22 at 8:00pm.
Fans of the original short film, Marcel the Shell With Shoes On, a googly-one-eyed shell who talks and “walks,” have been waiting for over a decade for a feature film version. It was an internet sensation before the social media era, and is voiced by Jenny Slate, who will introduce the film.
