Museum of Reclaimed Urban Space Hosts Conversation on “Occupation Culture” with Alan Moore

Artist/writer/activist Alan Moore will be in conversation with Carla Cubit and Marta R. Dann on Thursday, May 19th at 7 pm at the Museum of Reclaimed Urban Space (155 Ave C). Moore was an original member of Colab, the artists collective that famously created ABC No RIO.

The conversation will focus on the relationship between vacant space and artistic expression. Moore’s professional and academic work seeks to correct the marginalization of artists who lived in squats and showed their work in subcultural venues. You can check out his book, Occupation Culture, here.

Cubit and R.Dann are both artists whose work is deeply influenced by years living in squatted buildings. They’ll discuss such “fantastical downtown creations” as Umbrella House, the Rivington School and Garbagia.

Reservations can be made here.
