A 30-year-old man is in custody this morning — accused of slashing two women in separate incidents on the Lower East Side.
The first attack happened Friday at around 2 p.m. at Rivington and Suffolk streets, according to Channel 2. A 60-year-old woman required 10 stitches to the head after the suspect, Shawn Thomas, allegedly went after her with a blade. The second slashing happened a few minutes later at Ridge and Delancey streets. A 57-year-old woman underwent surgery after suffering facial nerve damage.
Officers from the NYPD Strategic Response Group arrested Thomas yesterday at Avenue D and Third Street. According to the Daily News, the suspect didn’t say anything to his victims before slashing them. These were apparently random, unprovoked attacks.
Officers Wheeler and House of our highly trained NYPD Strategic Response Group spotted the person wanted for two slashings in #Manhattan and apprehended the suspect. Outstanding police work, Officers! Keep it up.
