Since September, when Hurricane Maria devastated Puerto Rico, New Yorkers have been scrambling to help in recovery efforts. Some of the students at P.S. 126/Manhattan Academy of Technology on Catherine Street are doing their part.

P.S. 126 teacher Chris Piccigallo sent along these photos, after the students raised $1,346 in a recent fundraiser. In the photo posted above you see the kids who were involved, along with Millie Rodriguez, who organized the relief campaign, along with P.S. 126 Principal Carlos Romero. [Romero and Rodriguez are both Puerto Rican].

The students just decided which organizations to support. They will be sending the money raised to the Posada Foundation and to UNICEF. (Some of the funds will be going to help hurricane victims in Houston). The three-day fundraiser included a bake sale, plus a “Wear Your Hat in School Day” and a “Take Your Picture For Disaster Relief Day.”
