District 1 City Council member Margaret Chin tonight appears to have secured a third term, fending off a spirited challenge from political newcomer Christopher Marte.
With about 91% of the precincts reporting, Chin leads Marte about 51% to 36%.
Chin narrowly won the Democratic nomination in September, but Marte chose to run on the Independence Party line. He is far ahead of the Republican nominee, Bryan Jung, who has 8%, and Liberal Party candidate Aaron Foldenauer with 4%.
