Coming up on Oct. 25, there will be a public visioning session to develop ideas for the Stanton Building, a Parks Department facility in Sara D. Roosevelt Park.

Community activists have been campaigning for years to reclaim the building for the neighborhood. Here’s how they explain their vision and what will be happening at the meeting:

Located at the north end of Sara D Roosevelt Park in the center of lower Manhattan, the Stanton Building has great potential to create an all-ages space for community wellbeing and social resiliency, with a community climate action lab, a navigation desk for homeless community members and an emergency hub for times of disruption. This community and curricular vision is taking the next step forward and your input is greatly valued! As Sandy’s 5th anniversary approaches, please take part in an innovating evening furthering the vision of a socially resilient community center with an educational agenda engaging today’s unprecedented challenges.

The Parks Department is working on installing bathrooms within the building. The city uses the rest of the facility for storage, and Parks Department officials have said they’re having trouble finding a new location for their equipment. Until that happens, the community vision cannot move forward.

The Oct. 25 event will be held at the New School, 6:30 p.m. You can register here.
