Lower East Side History Buffs Beware: Urban Archive Scavenger Hunt Sept. 22

If you love to delve into the incredible history of the Lower East Side, you’ll want to know about The Hunt – LES, taking place Sept. 22. It’s a scavenger hunt traversing the streets of the LES, with the help of the Urban Archive App.

The location-based digital platform brings together the historical collections of New York City’s museums, archives, and libraries. The image you see above shows the burned-out remains of Congregation Makower of Poland, 203 Henry St. (1978; Edmund Vincent Gillon/Museum of the City of New York).

It all starts from the Hester Street Fair at 5:30 p.m. Teams will be made up of 2-3 people. You can register here. Prizes go to the top three teams.

Urban Archive is sponsoring the event along with the Museum of the City of New York, Brooklyn Brewery and The Lo-Down.
