Many tears were shed in August (including our own) when Lan Zhou, the great dumpling and hand-pulled noodle shop closed at 144 East Broadway. You can wipe those tears away, though. We have more details about Lan Zhou’s resurgence a few blocks to the west of the original location.
Eater spoke with Mindy Xie, whose uncle owns the restaurant. She said the space at 40 Bowery should be ready to go by mid-October. If you’ve walked past 40 Bowery, between Bayard and Canal streets, you’ve seen the signage. The familiar yellow and red billboard has arrived with a handwritten message in the window promising an October opening.
The Bowery space is a lot bigger than the East Broadway hole-in-the-wall, which means there will be room for about 40 customers. There will also likely be beer and wine. According to Community Board 3’s just-released meeting agendas, Lan Zhou will go before the liquor licensing panel Oct. 23.
