Entire High School Sinking

If you like the idea of graphic novels, creative animation and high school sagas revamped for the Adult Swim generation, you might like this: We’re giving away tickets to My Entire High School Sinking Into the Sea, a new animated feature from Dash Shaw, the acclaimed cartoonist and graphic novel author, which premieres at the Metrograph this weekend.  The cast is a who’s who list of top indie entertainers and other heavy hitters: Jason Schwartzman, Lena Dunham, Reggie Watts, Maya Rudolph, Susan Sarandon, Alex Karpovsky and John Cameron Mitchell.

In the film, an earthquake causes a high school to float into the sea, where it slowly sinks like a shipwreck. It’s described as “parts disaster cinema, high school comedy and blockbuster satire, told through a dream-like mixed media animation style that incorporates drawings, paintings and collage.”  It’s been hailed as “the most original animated film of the year” and “John Hughes for the Adult Swim generation” (Indiewire).

The film opens Friday. On Saturday, John Cameron Mitchell and Shaw will participate in a talkback at the 7 p.m. showing.
