Now that’s a big catch from the East River! Thanks to Angel Luis Rivera for these photos. He was showing his girlfriend the old neighborhood yesterday, when they came across this fisherman. Angel asked if it’s safe to eat fish out of the river and was told it’s all right to do every so often, as long as you don’t make a regular habit of it (this is, of course, a matter of debate).
Angel was born and raised on the Lower east Side. The film industry veteran is pals with local legend Luis Guzman (they met in Hollywood, rather than on the LES). Angel told us that Guzman recently turned him on to Ave Legends, a local apparel company  that makes a hat carrying the label, “Just a kid from the Lower East Side.” Angel’s planning to pick one up for Sal Bartolomeo, everyone’s favorite pizza man.
