The owners of the popular vegan show store, MooShoes, have just opened a vegan grocery store in deli. It’s located at 78 Orchard St. (the two businesses are side-by-side.)
Orchard Grocer offers a selection of sandwiches and salads, soft-serve, pantry items, cheeses and gluten-free sweets. There’s a breakfast sandwich served all day. It’s made with turmeric tofu egg, tempeh bacon and Chao cheese. You can also order a bagel with cashew cream cheese, carrot lox, capers and chives. It’s the Lower East Side, of course, so there’s a “reuben,” made with beet-brined Blackbird seitan.
MooShoes was founded in 2001 by sisters Erica and Sara Kubersky. The shoe store also sells other clothing items and accessories, and in the past, there was a small selection of food items. Now the grocery is a stand-alone operation. For now, the food store is open from 8 a.m.-8 p.m. daily.
