At the Bowery Mission, staff members and volunteers are finishing preparations for Thanksgiving 2016.
The historic Lower East Side institution will be serving 1800 meals on Thursday to those in need in the chapel at 227 Bowery. Meals will be offered throughout the five boroughs this week and in New Jersey to 11,000 people.
About 650 volunteers will be helping to serve meals throughout the day from 8 a.m.-6 p.m. In addition to a hot dinner, each guest will receive a new coat and a “blessing bag,” including socks, a winter hat, gloves, and hygiene items. The mission’s Thanksgiving program this year is made possible by The Hain Celestial Group and other donors such as Bloomberg, Con Edison, Deutsche Bank, Kenneth Cole Productions, Warner Bros. Entertainment, Bombas and Buzzfeed.
The Bowery Mission has closed registration for volunteers this year. But click here if you’d like to learn more about helping out at a later time.
