Happening Today: IDNYC Pop-Up, Evolving Festival Begins, Charlie Kaufman Films

Here are some of the things happening on the Lower East Side today:

–At 1 p.m., a temporary NYC ID enrollment pop-up site will officially open at 24 Avenue D (East 3rd Street). City officials, NYCHA, Henry Street Settlement and the LES People’s Federal Credit Union and Community Board 3 will join City Council member Rosie Mendez to launch the municipal ID site.

–The Evolving Festival kicks off tonight at the Clemente Soto Velez Cultural Center, 107 Suffolk St. The festival is made up of FreeJazz music, dance improvisation, poetry and art. See the schedule here.

–The Sunshine Cinema is celebrating the release of the new animated film, “Anomalisa,” with a Charlie Kaufman retrospective. First up at 1 p.m. today is “Being John Malkovich.” See the full schedule.

–Ben R. Mackie, the Australian-born songwriter, plays Mercury Lounge at 8 p.m. Details here.

–Avant Garden, the variety show and open mic night at The Unicorn, returns to kick off the new year. Here’s the Facebook invite. 7 p.m., 105 Henry St., $3.
