Here’s a look at what’s on our radar on the Lower East Side today:

–In the Sheldon Silver federal corruption trial today, the prosecution’s star witness is set to take the stand. Cancer researcher, Dr. Robert Taub, is expected to testify that he only referred legal business to the former speaker because Silver was directing state grants to his mesothelioma center at Columbia University.

Community Board 3’s economic development committee meets at 6:30 p.m. to continue discussing a possible special district to protect mom-and-pop businesses. The meeting takes place in the Village View Community Room, 175 East 4th St.

–At 6 p.m., Gallery onetwentyeight screens the interactive film, “The Painted People Ride Again.” by Jeanne Wilkinson. You can read more about the unusual production here. The gallery is located at 128 Rivington St.

–Soldiers of Fortune, the NYC-based indie group, performs tonight at Max Fish in support of their new album. There are two sets, at 8:30 p.m. and 10 p.m. 120 Orchard St. h/t Brooklyn Vegan.

–“Gandhi is That You,” the popular weekly comedy series, returns to Lucky Jack’s at 9 p.m. 129 Orchard St. Check out tonight’s lineup here.
