Award winning playwright and actress Nilaja Sun comes home to the Lower East Side next week for the world premier of her latest experimental production under the auspices of the Epic Theatre Ensemble (at Abrons Arts Center). It’s Sun’s first solo show since the Obie-winning play, No Child…which debuted at the Barrow Street Theatre and went on to a highly successful national tour, garnering numerous awards.
In Pike St., Sun tells the story of a struggling family, living in the shadow of the Manhattan Bridge and preparing to ride out the next big storm. Unable to move her teenage daughter, Candace, whose mysterious aneurysm has rendered her unable to move or breathe on her own, mother Evelyn plans for more than just survival: as the storm approaches, she fights for healing and redemption.
There will be post-show discussions after the performances. Through Dec. 6, 466 Grand St., 8 p.m., $30.
