There’s no shortage of anxiety in Albany as Sheldon Silver’s federal corruption trial is set to begin (WSJ). Paul Newell has raised about $46,000 this year and is inching closer to running for Assemblyman Sheldon Silver’s seat. In a recent interview, he said: “Mr. Silver has the right to a trial, but there is no question the era of Sheldon Silver is over.” (Gotham Gazette). Back in February, Community Board 3 asked the city to study creating a protected bike lane on Chrystie Street; “Apparently, someone got tired of waiting and set up orange cones on one long block in the beginning of October to keep the bike lane clear.” (Streetsblog) Street artist Lee Quiñones talks about the large-scale mural he’s creating for the Hotel Indigo. Asked whether he feels the hotel is using him to deflect its role in gentrification, Quiñones said: “This hotel is trying to give back, be inclusive.” The Indigo includes other “LES touches,” such as “light fixtures made from recycled bicycles and pushcarts repurposed as TV stands.
