The state attorney general wants to know why consumers are stuck with slow internet when they’re paying for high speed service. “Last year, a study by city Controller Scott Stringer found households with slow or no access to speedy Internet tend to live in poorer neighborhoods across the Bronx, central Brooklyn and East Harlem and the Lower East Side.” (Daily News)

ICYMI: The schools at 145 Stanton St. were evacuated Friday after “a student’s boyfriend threatened to come to the building and open fire, law-enforcement sources said.” The boyfriend was later taken into custody (Post)

What needs to happen for the 2nd Avenue Subway to make it to the Lower East Side? Here are a few ideas (WNYC).

Deputy mayor Alicia Glen last week expressed skepticism about proposals to protect mom-and-pop businesses. Jeremiah Moss responds: “It sounds like, for Glen and others at City Hall, the corporate takeover of our city adds up to nothing more than Darwinism, survival of the fittest. As we mentioned last week, State Senator Adriano Espaillat is pushing for legislation that would allow the State Liquor Authority to freeze liquor licenses in Inwood for a year. The SLA’s response: “The agency (will) continue to take a balanced approach in our review process, weighing the merits of the individual application and the recommendations of residents, community boards and elected officials.” (NYT)
