New York City’s public schools will be back in session a week from tomorrow. If you’re looking for part time work, positions are open in neighborhoods across the city for school crossing guards.
Manhattan Borough President Gale Brewer is trying to get the word out about 80 new positions made available as a result of $1.14 million in City Council funding. She helped advocate for the additional money for the NYPD’s crossing guard program. “These positions offer regular hours, increased pay, and the opportunity to help keep our city’s kids safe, every school day,” said Brewer.

Pay for crossing guards starts at $11.50/hour and increases to $13.49/hour after three years with health benefits. A news release from the borough president noted:
Now that crossing guard head count has been increased, B.P. Brewer will continue pushing for other improvements in working conditions, recruitment, and assignment for these vital public servants, including: increased pay, an end to summer furloughs, standardized central recruitment rather than recruitment through individual precincts, and an assignment process that accounts for both traffic data and community input.
