Plans are moving forward this summer on the $335 million initial phase of the East Side Coastal Resiliency Project. It’s intended to protect the Lower East Side and other communities in close proximity to the waterfront from the next super storm. There are three upcoming community workshops to discuss the developing proposals. Here are the details:
Tuesday, July 28 at 5:30pm: Stein Senior Center, 204 E. 23rd St. Focused on the waterfront between E. 14th and E. 23rd streets.
Wednesday, July 29 at 6:30pm: Church of St. Brigid, 119 Avenue B. Focused on the waterfront between Houston and E. 14th streets.
Thursday, July 30 at 6:30pm: Manny Cantor Center, 197 East Broadway. Focused on the waterfront between Montgomery and Houston streets.
In the first phase of the project, city officials hope to build a storm protection system from east 23rd Street to Montgomery Street. You can read more information about the competition that led up to the plan on the Rebuild by Design website.
